At Chiesi, we believe that caring for people, the planet and future generations are deeply connected. Having been incorporated as a Società Benefit in Italy, as a Société à Mission in France, and as a Benefit Corporation in the United States, as well as in Colombia, we consider that our approach to sustainability as a core part of our identity,
For us, this means integrating sustainable practices across our operations and workplace environments, reinforcing more responsible ways of working every day. We design sustainability into our science, products and solutions, ensuring innovation not only improves patients’ lives, but reduces environmental impact at every stage.
Perhaps most crucially, we hold ourselves accountable, with our decision-making guided by legal commitments that consider the societal and environmental impact of our actions.
Sustainability across our value chain
Our approach to sustainability is rooted in the principle of creating shared value to benefit all our stakeholders: patients, our teams, our planet and the communities in which we operate. This requires a commitment to a more sustainable supply chain that focuses both on managing environmental, social, and economic impacts, and on promoting good governance practices throughout the entire life cycle of goods and services. This principle is embedded in our strategy and lies at the heart of our identity. Guided by our mission to improve the quality of human life, and with ambitious and fair sustainability standards, we tackle societal challenges with impactful solutions that make a lasting difference.
Our sustainability manifesto
Launched in 2018 together with the “We ACT – We Actively Care for Tomorrow” programme, our sustainability manifesto inspires and engages all employees in adopting sustainable practices that benefit society and the environment.
We live in a time of great changes... The planet is exploited beyond its limits and its equilibriums are in continuous transformation. We are changing ourselves in the way we live and think about our society. The most fragile and vulnerable are paying the price: those who are often left behind in this rush forward.
At Chiesi we have always believed that it is necessary to take care of our planet and the people who inhabit it, rediscovering the value of mutual solidarity, as we are aware that every individual, as well as every living organism, is unique and irreplaceable.
This is why we want to make the assurance of high-quality medical research available for the most fragile individuals so that we can closely listen to and understand them as people, not just as patients.
We want to act as a force for good, promoting a conscious and different way of doing business which strives to achieve a positive impact on society and nature by handling resources in a circular way and creating a new harmony and sustainability. The well-being of all depends on this balance. For us, this is the only true form of progress.
Our team of professionals is highly motivated and open-minded, as our culture guides us, valuing the diversity of each individual.
Our path to Net Zero
We set an ambitious goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our entire value chain by 2035. This requires reducing absolute emissions by at least 90% and limiting reliance on carbon removal to no more than 10% of residual emissions, aligning its strategy with the Paris Agreement. Our Net Zero roadmap targets a 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and a 90% reduction in key Scope 3 emissions categories by 2035, compared our 2019 baseline.
We focus on nine priority SDGs where we can make a meaningful impact leveraging our resources, expertise, and capabilities
